Tom Kite
Tom Kite is certainly well known in the game of golf
as one of its consummate professionals with 19 PGA Tour
victories, including the 1989 PLAYERS Championship and
1992 U.S. Open. Tom also played for the U.S. in seven
Ryder Cups – four of them were victorious teams – and
he would captain another squad in 1997. In addition
to his PGA TOUR victories, Kite claimed the Vardon Trophy
(lowest scoring average) in 1981 and 1982 and is also
a two-time winner of the Arnold Palmer Award (leading
money winner). He led the TOUR in career earnings from
Oct. 29, 1989 until Aug. 27, 1995. Since joining the
Champions Tour in 2000, Kite has won seven times including
a major championship. He led the Champions Tour in greens
in regulation every year from 2000 to 2003.
Less well known, but rapidly changing,
is his work in golf course design. Tom only takes on
projects when he knows that his schedule will allow
his full participation in the project. While he is highly
involved in all phases of a project, he focuses on green
design and course strategy.
Roy Bechtol
Roy Bechtol possesses over 30 years experience in Land
Planning, Landscape Architecture and Golf Course Design.
It is this unique combination that allows the Bechtol

the land plan to enhance the entire project. Roy is
extremely experienced and comfortable in working in
areas with critical environmental features and is well
known for environmental sensitivity. His involvement
with golf course design began at the Austin Country
Club with Pete Dye in the late 1970’s. Since then he
has worked on numerous projects with Tom Fazio, Tom
Kite, and was associated with Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish
& Associates for fourteen years.
In addition to his role in Bechtol
Russell Golf, Roy has been the President and CEO of
Planned Environments, Inc. for 30 years. Planned Environments
is a full service land planning and landscape architecture
firm that has master planned over a million acres with
the majority focused on golf communities.
Randy Russell
Randy Russell brings one of the most varied experience
backgrounds of anyone in the golf industry to Bechtol
Russell Golf.
Beginning as an assistant golf professional
at some of the major private clubs in the country such
as Bel-Air and Winged Foot, he obtained a degree in
Agronomy Turf Management prior to going to work with
Kirby Player and Associates, Golf Course Architects
in 1973.
From 1978 to 1999, as Director of
Golf for the City of Austin, he was totally responsible
for the entire operation of 5 golf courses, including
the creation of a new golf course from its inception,
financing, personally designing the course, and providing
construction management for the project. During the
time with the City of Austin , he collaborated with
Roy on several renovation projects that would prove
to be the forerunner of Bechtol Russell Golf.
