Pressbox > Cyclists Invited To participate In the 2nd Annual Somersett Sierra Challenge Ride To Defeat ALS
On Saturday, August 29, 2009, hundreds of cyclists will converge in Somersett’s Town Square for the “2nd Annual Somersett - Sierra Challenge – Ride to Defeat ALS”. This fully supported ride will reward participants with breath-taking views, challenging climbs, and a chance to make a difference in the fight against Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Riders can choose between two spectacular routes, a Metric Century and a 50K route, that range from demanding to intermediate. Check-in for the Metric Century is at 6:00am with the ride starting at 7:00am. The 50K ride will begin at 8:30am.
After the Ride, registered riders will enjoy a gourmet lunch provide by Roundabout Bistro and a free drink provided by Whispering Vine. There will be over $3,000 in raffle prizes and free live entertainment by The Colin Ross Band from 12:00pm – 3:00pm. on the stage in Somersett Town Square.
The public is invited to attend and enjoy the music, purchase raffle tickets and help support The ALS Association. ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord causing people to lose their ability to walk, talk, swallow, and breathe. People in the later stages of ALS are totally paralyzed, yet their minds often remain alert. Every 90 minutes, someone is diagnosed with ALS. Every 90 minutes, a person dies from ALS.
