TWO HIGH-FLYING TOM KITE GOLF COURSES ANCHOR RENO'S NEW SOMERSETT DEVELOPMENT
September 1, 2004

Now is the perfect time to Somer-settle into a master-planned golf community that promises to rise above -- literally and figuratively--every other private club in Reno.

Tucked into a secluded valley in West Reno, Somersett seems worlds away but is just minutes from shopping, downtown Reno, the airport and the four-season recreation of Lake Tahoe.

It’s also minutes from some of the area’s top golf courses, but PGA Tour star Tom Kite and his fellow designers are poised to make that a moot point as their 7,400-yard, private championship course takes shape, hole by breathtaking hole.

From quaint duet homes to expansive semi-customs, Somersett offers an impressive collection of living opportunities by five award-winning builders, including Indigo Hills and Amber Glen by Silverstar; Ventana, Versante and The Village at Town Center by Monterey Development Group; Cityside by Northcliff Development; Copper Knolls by Ryder Homes and Ridgeview by Brunsonbuilt Homes.

Situated in distinctive village neighborhoods, many homes in Somersett enjoy commanding views of snowcapped peaks, scenic canyons and, most importantly, the golf courses. They range in size from just over 1,200 square feet to more than 3,500 square feet and are available from the mid-high $200,000s to the mid-$600,000s. Somersett also offers spacious custom homesites perched on the community’s most spectacular vantage points for those wishing to build their dream homes.

As of mid-August, 55 families were living the Somersett experience, and more than 200 homes are currently under construction. A total of 2,648 homesites will be available, with the next release of neighborhood homes and custom sites slated for October.

Somersett’s Town Center will act as an activity hub for the community, with places to gather and socialize as well as shopping and recreation. Plans include a deli-market, restaurant, retail and professional services and an inviting Town Green, a picturesque venue for community events such as art fairs, concerts and farmers markets.

Every resident will enjoy an incomparable resort-style amenities package, including:

Kite’s charming, walkable, 979-yard, par-3 Canyon Nine golf course, opening in September.
The Club at Town Center, a spectacular multi-million dollar, 21,000-square-foot recreation and social club, opening fall 2004.
25 miles of meandering hiking and biking trails.
Lush community landscaping.
E-community technology features.
Two public parks and a fire station are also planned.

Now comes the great part for golfers: Equity membership in the Somersett Country Club, which already boasts more than 70 members, with a cap of 450. Limited non-resident memberships are available as well. Says Membership Director Amy Grigsby, “Our goal is to have 100 members by the end of this year.”

Kite’s signature course is designed to take advantage of the community’s beautiful native landscape and sweeping mountain views. The par-72 course will play to 7,380 yards from its championship tees; five sets of tees are being designed to accommodate all skill levels. Kite and his co-designers, fellow Texans Roy Bechtol and Randy Russell, are creating generous landing areas, six lakes, several water features and more than 60 bunkers.

“We’ve been working on this project for nearly two years,” Kite said during his latest site visit in mid-August. “This is not an easy piece of land -- there’s a lot of movement and elevation change, but that’s what makes it exciting. We’ll make it a fun course to play for everybody. It’s got to be challenging enough for professionals and really good amateurs, but we want ‘Uncle Harry and ‘Aunt Agnes’ to be able to get around, too. And we’re still blown away by the magnificent views.”

Added Bechtol, “It’s rare when homes start going in ahead of the golf course in a development like this, and it’s taken time to get the routing right, but it was worth it. The holes are very dramatic.”

Practice facilities will incorporate a multi-tiered driving range, chipping and putting areas. Complementing this championship course will be a spectacular clubhouse overlooking the community and the Sierra Nevada range. Clubhouse plans include a restaurant, lounge, locker rooms, boardroom and golf shop.
