There’s an irresistible spirit at Somersett that urges you to come out and play — whether that means playing 18 holes of championship golf on a Tom Kite-designed course, spending an afternoon by the pool or exploring 27 miles of hiking and biking trails. Gently carved into nature’s majestic landscape, Reno’s award-winning master-planned golf community of Somersett offers amenities that pamper the senses and a lifestyle that enlivens the spirit.
Somersett presents an incomparable selection of homes by the region’s most established, award-winning builders — Del Webb, Home Crafters, McCaffery Fine Homes, Monterey Development Group, NorthCliff, Ryder Homes, Silverstar and Toll Brothers. Spectacular golf course and Sierra Nevada mountain views paint the perfect backdrop for these homes which offer an impressive array of architectural styles and sizes. Embraced by hundreds of acres of open space, Somersett provides single-family homes, semi-custom homes and custom homesites in gated neighborhoods.
Residents will enjoy Somersett’s amenity package, which includes The Club at Town Center, the community’s 24,000-square-foot social and recreational club with a pool complex and 98-foot waterslide, tennis courts, spas, sauna, indoor basketball-sports court, aerobics studio, cardio-weight center, kids’ and teens’ clubs, art studio and more. Also included is the popular Canyon Nine par-3 golf course, perfect for a quick game.
Membership is available in the private Somersett Country Club, which boasts a phenomenal 18-hole championship course designed by former U.S. Open Champion Tom Kite with KBR Design. The 7,252-yard, par-72 course presents dramatic shot-making challenges and features seven lakes, 62 white sand bunkers, 400-foot-wide landing areas and five sets of tees per hole to accommodate every skill level.
“I think it’s a great course, with some incredible views,” says Dave Hughes, one of Somersett’s earliest members and the proud owner of a home along the No. 7 fairway. Hughes is also co-host of the popular Reno area TV show, “Those Golf Guys,” and says his new home course compares favorably to the area’s top tracks. “There are some tough holes on the front nine, but I really love the back — the designers did a wonderful job of routing it through the hills.”
The course opens with a stunning downhill tee shot between broad sets of bunkers. It’s a drive that sets a quick and definite tone for the round to come: Plenty of elevation changes from tee to green, landing areas that are much more generous than they appear at first glance, and approaches to big, sweeping greens that are already in amazing shape.
Potential signature holes abound, but Kurt Vogel, Somersett’s head golf professional, gives his nod to No. 5 — a 588-yard par 5 that snakes between two lakes.
“From the elevated tee, the more you look at that tight landing area, the narrower it gets — especially when the wind kicks up.”
For Hughes, No. 16 does the trick.
“To me it’s the most intimidating hole out here. You get up on the tee and all you see is bunkers, but when you get up to the green and look back, you can’t see any of them. That’s the mark of a great hole.”
In fact, there’s no hint of a weak hole at Somersett. Kite’s first Northern Nevada effort excels at every level — it’s playable for all comers and downright friendly for everyone who picks the right tee. There’s five to choose from, giving this course several personalities. It’s the kind of layout that will stir the juices every time, even if you play it every day. That’s an important factor at any private club, and what Kite had in mind from the start.
“We worked hard with the developers and homeowners and tried to create something here we can be proud of,” he said at the course’s grand opening. It’s fun, it’s exciting, and we’ve given you plenty of room to hit some great shots.”
Somersett’s west Reno location is secluded yet minutes away from four-season recreation, shopping, dining and entertainment. Conveniently close to the dynamics of the city, Somersett provides all the daily necessities while still feeling miles away from ordinary life. Somersett — it’s great to be home.
Visit the Somersett Welcome Center, open every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. New homes available from the $300,000s to over a million. Custom homesites available from the high $200,000s.
